Eggstractor Warning

September 13th, 2006

Since I wrote about an infomercial product yesterday, I thought I might as well mention one of the few “As Seen on TV” items that I have purchased: The Eggstractor. I bought it a few years ago when they were offering the 2-for-the-price-of-1 infomercial gimmick - My husband and one of his friends both wanted it, so they split the cost and we were only stuck with one.

The basic concept appears to involve the use of air pressure to somehow peel an egg in an instant. Here are a few Amazon reviews. Some love it, some hate it. We fit into the latter catgory. I’m willing to admit it’s possible we just didn’t use it correctly, but we followed the rather complicated directions and the device never worked! We acheived all sorts of results, except for the egg shooting out of its shell. For the occasional hardboiled egg we have to peel, the Eggstractor was just too aggravating, and a waste of money and space.
