Less Whine and More Wine
October 31st, 2006I subscribed my husband to my blog in hopes it would help him remember to read it and give me feedback. So far, all I’ve found out is that he thinks my Grocery Roundups are boring. He’s probably right, they aren’t adding a lot of value. I’ll try to limit them to once a month or really good deals.
On the topic of good deals, this week happens to be 15% off a purchase of 6 bottles of wine at Kroger (instead of the usual 10%). Wine isn’t a cheap interest, and every little bit helps.
It also helps that we stick to bottles under $7 except for special occasions. There’s some reasonable stuff in the ~$5.30 to ~$6.50 range, a solid step above Sutter Home. Redwood Creek is generally reliable, and our overall favorite is Pepperwood Grove at $6.59 in our local stores. 15% off drops the price by a dollar a bottle. Also, if you can find Pepperwood Grove bottles with rebate tags around their necks, you can save $30 on 12 bottles by mail-in rebate. That would make the final price per bottle a superbly drinkable $3.09 plus tax (about 30 cents). We reached our “two rebates per household” limit a long time ago!
