Black Friday Plans?
November 19th, 2007This Friday! I’m facing the annual question: To shop or not to shop? I confess to being a Black Friday slacker who totally let it sneak up on me this year. Lately, my shopping energy has been directed towards filling the gaps in our baby gear, so I haven’t been browsing the leaked ads and have no idea what the hot deals are.
There aren’t any major purchases on our agenda anyway, so the main reason I would consider participating in BF is a fascination with its role as the ultimate bargain hunting event. Part of me derives perverse thrills from observing the huddled masses sacrificing all good sense and decorum in the name of snagging obscenely cheap merchandise. Speaking of mass, I have a bit more weight to muscle around this year at eight-and-a-half months pregnant, so woe to anyone unwise enough to cross me. This could be Baby’s initiation into the wild world of bargain questing.
At the same time, being two-and-half weeks from my due date is a compelling argument for remaining in the comfort of home, sipping hot chocolate and watching Walmart riots on TV, while browsing the internet for online deals that are almost as good as what can be found in stores. Mmmmm. If Black Friday isn’t your bargain hunting cup of tea, I recommend frequent trips to Slickdeals or similar deal sites during the holiday season to see what’s popping up. And there’s always Cyber Monday.
I’ve read plenty of opinions that “the BF deals aren’t as good this year,” but I think I hear that every year. Are there any fantastic bargains I’ll be missing if I skip it? Are you braving the crowds, in pursuit of what?
Not sure if I am braving the crowds this year. Usually my sweet husband will face them. It’s pretty great to see that he is one the minority among many of the women that are there. Black Friday is a pretty crazy day. Personally, I like going to the store, when there are grocery deals, and knowing that the product -for the most part is going to be there, instead of having to fight everyone for it who also knows that it is a good price. Just too much pressure. I remember the long lines and only making it to maybe 3 stores and being in line for most of it. Then standing in line with people who have a cold…. it goes on and on. So far there doesn’t seem to be anything on our list that is standing out as a must have on Black Friday. Good luck and have a great Thanksgiving!
Ugh. Black Friday. After working retail in high school and college, nothing could compel me to go shopping on this most awful of ‘holidays.’
Yes, I admit I can be sarcastic/snippy from time to time. But even my mother, who’s seen the worst from me, was surprised last year at me, her daughter. I turned into a sweet, mild mannered woman with a scone and coffee into a snarling, rabid Gorgon in about 5 minutes after being in the mall. (Okay, my excuse is that I was pregnant and didn’t know it…crazy mood swings, right?) By the end of the day, I was yelling at people who bumped into me, and snarling at anyone I could.
So in short? No way. I’m staying home, decorating the tree, and enjoying my baby boy - he’s three months already!:D I’d rather remain in the good holiday spirit I’ve caught - it isn’t a blessing for someone to have a wicked spat with me!
My vote is that you stay home, have some cocoa, and rest those (presumably) swollen ankles. Enjoy this quiet time now, before the baby comes, and all is kittywompus!
